Glass textolite (HGW)
Engineering plastics for industry › GLASS TEXTOLITE (HGW)
Glass textolite - it is a multi-layerelectro-technical / structural material. It is produced by pressing fabric glass fibre saturated with epoxy and phenol formaldehyde resins. Separate trade marks employs glass fibre itself and not the fabric.
Characteristics:
- Features very good electro-insulation characteristics, even at humidity up to 75 %;
- Very high mechanical resistance under variable loads and vibration;
- Very solid and rigid;
- Mechanical and dielectric characteristics retain their stability even under high temperatures (up to +155 °C, for separate trade marks: up to +250 °C);
- Dimensions retain stability even under significant change in temperature and moisture values;
- Resistant to corrosion and most of chemicals, durable;
- Low mechanical workability;
- Light yellow glass textolite of HGW 2372 (STEF-1) trade mark is commonly used;
- Glass textolite may be brown, rose, greenish, or white;
- Operating temperature of glass textolite HGW 2372 (STEF-1) varies from -65 oC up to +155 oC;
- Density: 1.85 g/cm3;
- Water absorption: 0.1 %.
Scope of application:
Glass textolite is most commonly used in electrotechnics. Transformer plates, panels of distribution boards, printed circuit boards are produced from it. It is also used for rotors of generators and direct current engines.
Various glass textolite profiles as structural materials are used in construction instead of metal for reinforcement of window frames, bridge structures. Various valve ribs are produced. Due to its rigidity, glass textolite sheets are commonly used for production of amortisation springs of various equipment.
Glass textolite cannot be used as sliding material, as it quickly abrades the adjacent working material: it works as abrasive element, thus tools turn dull quickly.
