Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
Engineering plastics for industry › POLYETHERETHERKETONE (PEEK)
Polyetheretherketone - it is high quality high temperature engineering plastic. Chemical name - PEEK. In our country PEEK plastic is a sufficiently new polymer, its popularity is growing though due to ensured stability of dimensions.
This plastic is solid, able of long-term operation under high temperature, in water and steam media, easy to finish mechanically. It may replace polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) in many areas, including the fact that it is harder than PTFE and features higher resistance to wear and may bear higher loads. It retains stable mechanical characteristics in aggressive chemical environment.
PEEK plastic may be produced with various additives, thus providing it with additional characteristics: glass fibre (reduces thermal expansion coefficient), carbon fibre (improves stability of dimensions, resistance to wear, reduces friction coefficient), ceramic filler (ensures stability of dimensions during the whole interval of temperature and moisture), complex of carbon fibre, graphite, and PTFE (self-lubricating, for medical purposes), and etc.
Characteristics:
- Ensures stability of dimensions even at high temperatures.
- Non-flammable, self-extinguishing, and flueless.
- Resistant to radiation.
- Resistant to hot water and steam, including corrosion.
- Resistant to alkalis, salt solutions, alcohol, lubricants, and other chemical substances.
- Sufficiently resistant to pressure.
- Very good surface slippage characteristics and friction resistance.
- Very good electrical insulation characteristics within the whole temperature interval.
- Well balanced characteristics of rigidity, strength, and impact resistance.
- Low linear thermal expansion coefficient.
- Particularly homogeneous material allowing avoidance of admixtures.
- Very good tribological characteristics.
- Hygienic and durable.
- Colour: light brown; depending on additives, it may be black, grey, anthracite, whitish; for medical purpose – red, yellow, green, grey, and other.
Technical data:
- Density:
- 1.32 g/cm3;
- 1.41-1.50 g/cm3 (depending on additives).
- Operating temperature:
- -60 oC - +250 oC (PEEK);
- Depending on additives, temperature below 0 may vary.
- Reaction to fire class: V0 (UL 94)
Scope of application:
Particularly widespread in industries of electronics and semi-conductors, electricity, aviation, medicine, chemistry, food, transport, and wheeled motor vehicles. Various precision (of highly accurate dimensions) parts, analytical equipment, components of dialysis apparatuses, parts of vacuum pumps, their blades, valve elements, cranks, electrical insulators, switches, sensors, control rosettes, moulds, parts for air-conditioning systems, sealing rings, bearings, pistons, compressor gaskets, oil filters, connections of housing parts, coffee filters, dispenser rings, guides, artificial spinal vertebrae, and other items.
