Polysulphone (PSU)
Engineering plastics for industry › POLYSULPHONE (PSU)
Polysulphone – high quality transparent yellowish engineering plastic. Chemical name – PSU. This plastic features sufficiently high thermal stability, mechanical strength, good dielectric characteristics, resistance to hydrolysis and high level of radiation, microwave conductivity, and rather low impact resistance.
Characteristics:
- Ensures stability of dimensions;
- Low moisture absorption (absorption);
- Self-extinguishing;
- Flueless;
- Features mechanical strength, rigidity, and hardness;
- Easy mechanical workability;
- Formed by heat treatment;
- It may be welded;
- Good adhesive characteristics;
- Quite low linear thermal expansion coefficient;
- Resistant to multiple sterilization;
- Features average impact resistance (possible occurrence of cracks in some media, e. g., under the action of coolants);
- Non-resistant to atmospheric action;
- Good chemical resistance to lubricants, fats, petrol, alcohol, hot water, and steam;
- Chemically resistant to diluted acids and alkaline solutions;
- Chemically non-resistant to solvents, ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, and benzole;
- Colour: natural (light yellowish).
Technical data:
- Density - 1.24 g/cm3;
- Operating temperature: from -50oC to +160 oC;
- Short-term operating temperature: +180 oC (PPS);
- Reaction to fire class: V0 (UL 94).

* In our country demand for this plastic is quite low, thus it is not warehoused and delivered only on orders.
Scope of application:
Highly widespread use for production of microwave ovens, dryers, humidifiers, wheels of pumps, insulators, and other parts; in food and medicinal industries: for production of laboratory equipment, medicinal devices, and other structural elements that are highly mechanically, electrically, and thermally loaded, or if frequent sterilisation is required.
Various parts of bottling, milk packaging lines, valves, parts of switches, plug-in adapters, housings of reels, and other items are produced.
