Polyurethane (PU)
Engineering plastics for industry › POLYURETHANE (PU)
Polyurethane - it is a thermoplastic elastomer, highly elastic structural material featuring good anti-friction characteristics. Depending on the manufacturer it may be of various colours and trade mark names, e.g. Vulkollan, Fibroflex, and etc. Chemical name - PU.
Characteristics:
- Friction, abrasion, and tear resistance;
- Very good shape memory even after long-term deformations;
- Very good reduction of vibrations and impacts;
- Resistance against fat and most petroleum products;
- Good anti-friction characteristics;
- Rigidity:
- 75 Shore A - light yellow
- 90 Shore A - light blue
- Density: 1.15 g/cm3;
- Operating temperature: from -30 ºC to +80 ºC.
Due to its exceptional characteristics polyurethane is increasingly used in various areas:
- Motor vehicle industry: used for engine cushions, for production of sleeves for chassis (silentblocks) with longer service life than of originals.
- Industrial purposes: for production of drive shaft couplings, high diameter sprockets for transportation of bottles, grab blades for conveyor belts, various wheels, rollers, for coating of shafts. For lining of bunkers subject to the action of strong abrasive materials (coal, gravel, metal shavings).
- Construction and road machinery: base plates for vibrating plate compactors, blades for high capacity concrete stirrer, grab blades for rollers of roadrollers, blades for snow removal machines.
